Student Submissions
Submit Student Papers & Student Posters by Oct. 1, 2018

Eligibility for Student Papers

 

  • Any BSW/MSW student currently enrolled in classes or who received their degree during the 2017-2018 academic year.
     

  • Student papers may be submitted for consideration for the Frank Egan OR the Beulah R. Compton Awards. 
     

  • Papers do not need to have been submitted or accepted for presentation at the conference to be eligible for these awards.
     

  • Papers must include:

  • Title page
     

  • Abstract – maximum length -100 words
     

  • Paper – minimum length  5 pages, maximum length – 10 pages
     

  • Do not start a new page for references
     

  • American Psychological Association (APA) style
     

  • Typed double-spaced on 8 ½ “ x 11” paper
     

  • Papers relevant to the theme will be given priority consideration.
     

  • Papers should demonstrate scholarship

Frank Egan Award: Undergraduate student proposals selected for presentation at the conference will be eligible for consideration of an award established in honor of the late Frank Egan, one of the founders of this conference. Two awards of $100 each are awarded to students from the two participating states. Multiple authored papers must split the award money. Papers and submissions must follow the above listed guidelines in order to be considered for the award.

Beulah R. Compton Award: Graduate student proposals (MSW only) selected for presentation will be eligible for consideration of an award established in honor of Beulah R. Compton, Professor Emeritus, the University of Southern Mississippi. Two awards of $100 each are awarded to students from the two participating states. Multiple authored papers must split the award money. Papers and submissions must follow the above listed guidelines in order to be considered for the award.

Student Poster Abstracts

Students from CSWE schools of social work are invited to submit abstracts, and poster subjects shall be related to one of the following categories:  aging, children & families, health, mental health, ethics, community activism, or diversity.  The submission form shall include a faculty contact that indicates review and approval of the student’s project. The selected abstracts will be displayed in poster format during the conference and will be judged based on the subject’s relevance to social work practice, social work research references, and quality of the poster presentation. 

 

All social work students selected for the poster exhibit shall be presented a recognition certificate. The student recipient of Outstanding Bachelor Student Social Work Poster will receive a $50 award, and the Masters level student recipient of Outstanding Master Student Social Work Poster will receive a $100 award in addition to the recognition certificate.  If more than one (1) student participates in the selected poster exhibit, the award will be split equally between the students identified by their signature on the submitted abstract form. 

 

All student presenters are required to register.  Students selected are expected to participate in the conference to be available at their poster exhibit during the judging. The Student Poster Awards will be given during the Awards Program.

 

The student shall be responsible for providing his/her poster materials if selected to exhibit. The Alabama/Mississippi Social Work Education Conference will provide a table for the poster display. The Alabama/Mississippi Social Work Education Conference will not be responsible for any poster display materials provided by the student and/or school.
